131404860Within a growing industry, comes the need for mobile social media applications that drives business services or products to consumers or other businesses.  The industry that I am focusing on today is the network/internet marketing industry.  This is an industry that is growing more and more every week, but also relies on the sales of its services or products; thus making the need for these types of applications necessary.

According to a recent study by Flurry, consumers spent 81 minutes per day using mobile apps, compared to 74 minutes of web surfing. Here’s where it gets even more interesting. Social networking is one of two categories that dominate mobile app usage with 32% and games are responsible for 47%.

As a network/internet marketer, social media marketing is something that is widely used; therefore, the need for applications that will help keep up with social networking and stay productive is necessary.  Among social media mobile applications such as facebook, twiiter, flickr and such there is one application that is very useful especially to a network/internet marketer.  That application is called HomeBase.

hbHomeBase is basically a social media “megaphone.” With this application, anyone can blast announcements, updates and even add links and pictures to any messages, to all their social media groups. This application really does take social media marketing to a whole new level.  The only downfall regarding this application is that it is only available for IOS devices.

Network marketing relies on making contact with multiple people in multiple locations. Hence, another mobile application that is very useful in growing this type of business is Bump.  Bump allows you to swap contact information or photos between two phones simply by bumping them together. And the app isn’t limited to Android phones either–it works with iPhones as well.  Armed with this smart and fun little app, a network marketer will no longer have to keep track of paper business cards from conferences or meetings, as they’ll all be available in their address book (and safely synced with the cloud).

The application is called Circle.  This application is a local social networking group.  When you open it up, you get to see friends as well as interesting people near you and in the city that you are in.  Kind of helps you build your social network.

Enjoying and controlling the buffet.

buffetLet’s face it; those lovely buffet restaurants are very tempting. Especially the Chinese buffets. So, how can one go to a buffet and have control at the same time. Since we have to watch what we eat. In the journal Obesity, they reported that a person’s eating and sitting behaviors at a buffet might influence their weight. When I read that, I automatically said, “Duh!” But then I thought about the message behind the statement. They are basically saying that monitoring the actions that we take at the buffets can help us avoid overeating. Therefore, I would like to provide six simple actions that you can take when at the buffets to help yourself from overeating.

1. Grab a Salad Plate instead of the plate provided – It is suggested that using a smaller plate with the buffet gives the illusion of more food than what you actually have, thus you end up eating less. Heavy individuals are more likely to choose the largest dish available, according to a study done by Obesity.

chopsticks2. Eat with Chopsticks or smaller utensils (If they are provided) – According to my research, those who use smaller utensils or chopsticks then to eat a lot slower than those that don’t.

3. Try to sit where you’re not looking at the food – Two thoughts run through our heads. The first is that you want to get what you paid for and the second is FOOD! Therefore, if you are seating in a position that has you looking at the buffet while eating, you tend to get more tempted to refill the plate plus your little devil on the shoulder helps with convincing you by reminding you that you need to get what you paid for.

4. Take a Lap – When I first read about this, I started laughing. But, according to a study that was done by Obesity, walking around the buffet table and looking at the food first keeps you from over-eating. No wonder why all those thin people take a lap around the buffet first before serving themselves.

5. Watch what you drink – I am not going to write and lecture anybody about the dangers of soda, because we already waterknow, but there may be some facts that you may not realize: See, a cup of sweet tea is only slightly better than soda. Every glass that is drunk with dinner adds about 120 calories on top of the calories in your meal, and juice is just about the same. According to a study from the University of North Carolina, flavored drinks add 450 calories to our daily diet. Think about that, it’s basically an extra 47 pounds of body mass that you have to burn off (or not) each year. Think about drinking more water, it has the opposite effect: The more you drink, the more you shrink. Choose accordingly.

6. Engage in Conversation – According to dietitian and nutritionist Cara Stewart, It takes your stomach about 20 minutes to tell you that you’re full. Therefore, when you’re at the buffet you need to eat slowly conversationto avoid yourself form overeating. In order for that to not be so hard, just set your fork down every now and again and engage in the table conversation. If there isn’t one going on, then start one.

Everyday there are new blogs, articles and social media postings regarding health and wellness.  According to Nielsen, about 46% of netizens (yes, it’s a word, says Merriam-Webster) depend on social media when making decisions on purchases.  This means that about 54% of the population still rely on the traditional methods of media to learn about their health and wellness needs.  Does that mean that the state of social media regarding the health and wellness industry is in trouble?  I don’t think so.  I think it means that this industry is heading in the right direction mainly because there are more and more people reaching out online for information.

Stress: An effective way to manage it.

Grilling Healthy

20100703cornAre you a grill master?  Every guy I know will push their chest out and state, “Hell Yeah!”  Well, I enjoy lighting up the grill and throwing a nice piece of steak on the grill and grilling it up.  The question is though, is it actually possible to cook healthy food on the grill in order to maintain a diet or to lose weight?  Therefore, I have put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and grabbed my pipe and started to research to provide for you.

Has the thought of grilling fruit ever crossed your mind?  If you said no, don’t feel too bad.  It never crossed my mind either, until I started researching healthy grills.  According to Men’s Health, “Subjecting your pears, strawberries, peaches, or even bananas to the smoky heat of the grill results in a decidedly decadent side dish or dessert that’s every bit as delicious as it is good for you.” You can actually read more about the best fruits for the grill by visiting Men’s Heatlh online.

Grilling healthier is really not a hard habit to get into; just knowing how to tweak it is what can be hard at first.  Plus, knowing certain facts may actually save your life if not save money on future medical expenses.  According to a study that was done by the University of Minnesota, it was concluded that eating charred, well-done meat on a regular basis may actually increase the risk of pancreatic cancer by up to 60%.  As reported by The American Cancer Society, “Heterocyclic amines (HAs) are created by the burning of amino acids and other substances in meats cooked at particularly high temperatures and that are particularly well-done. What I found out from the experts was that grilling healthier does not mean you cannot be a grill master.  It just means being cautious about what you place on the grill.  For example: When choosing your meat, try to get the ones that have leaner cuts and try to trim the fat unless it is already done for you.  If you leave the fat on the meat, it will drip causing smoke which may contain carcinogens.  Carcinogens are basically a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue.  That is a big no-no in my book!  Therefore, I suggest lining the grill with foil and poke small holes in to allow the fat to still drip, but to control the amount of smoke that can get into your meat.  Another shocker is that the possibility of carcinogens is higher with charcoal or hot coals than propane.

Lastly, it was recommended by EatingWell.com that adding colorful vegetables to the grilled meal is good for you, tasty and worry-free.  You see, many of the chemicals that’s created when we grill meat is not created when we are grilling vegetables.  Plus, vegetables are naturally low in fat and only need a short time on the grill to get that grilled flavor.  Red, yellow, and green peppers, yellow squash, mushrooms, red onions, pineapple – all of these veggies grill well and make healthy additions to any plate.

Grilled Broccoli Rabe

SD7166Although somewhat unconventional, grilling dark leafy greens like broccoli rabe is a fun way to add subtle smokiness. Here, we bump up the flavor by tossing it with a garlic-rosemary vinaigrette.

Makes: 4 servings, about 2/3 cup each

Active Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch broccoli rabe (about 1 pound), trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons red-wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Preparation

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high.
  2. Cook broccoli rabe in a large pot of boiling water until bright green and barely tender, 1 to 2 minutes. Drain in a colander and rinse with cold water; drain well.
  3. Combine oil, vinegar, garlic powder, rosemary, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
  4. Grill the broccoli rabe, turning once, until tender and the leaves are just beginning to char, 1 to 2 minutes per side. Toss the broccoli rabe with the reserved dressing.

What is Network Marketing?

What-Is-Network-MarketingWhy are so many people afraid to join a network marketing company?  Is it due to the negative reputation that many before have given this industry.  What is network marketing?  Simply put, network marketing is a marketing method which uses contracted individuals to represent a product or service to the consumer.  Just like the big box companies use Televisions, Radio, Billboards and such to reach their consumers – the same goes for network marketing companies.  Consider each representative/distributor/associate simply as a Television or Radio ad, or a walking billboard.  Many people get involved with such an industry with an attitude of getting rich quick.  This is a bad attitude to have when getting involved with this industry.  Making money is possible, but just like any other job – hard work and customer service skills are required.  You must be able to put the work in with the notion that the income will come one day. Patience is the key ingredient to this industry.

Now, people tend to confuse network marketing with pyramid-selling.  Both are completely different and one is illegal.  Think about a traditional business.  They might have a marketing department and a sales task force.  The marketing department is in charge of getting in front of the people and raising their awareness of the product or service available.  Once the people inquire about the product or service it is up to the sales team to make the actual sale happen.  In network marketing, both departments are merged into one department known as a representative or distributor.  Watch the video from Robert Kiyosaki  regarding the network marketing industry.
